TYTAN Professional Fire Block Extreme can

TYTAN Professional Fire Block Extreme

3 of 4 confirmed$11.851 x 12 oz

On September 7 the cheapest single fire block can, at $11.85, was the 12 oz straw can; each can has a dated sheet with both UL 723 indices, and ICC-ES ESR-3302 covers the foam for fireblocking.

Fire block foam is a gap filler with a surface-burning claim on top. The color is a trade convention, not a code requirement and not a test result, so this page ignores the orange and reads the claim: which standard is named, whether both indices are printed, whether the tested thickness and the report exist. Most cans here fail that reading; the two TYTAN fire block foams carry a report number for the fireblocking claim itself.

Fire block is not firestop, and a color is not a rating.

Fireblocking, in the residential code, resists the movement of flame and hot gases through concealed spaces in wood-frame construction. It is not a rated firestop system, and no foam on this page is listed for one. Draftstopping is a third term, for the material that subdivides large concealed spaces such as floor-ceiling assemblies and attics; a maker that calls a can a draft stop is naming a use, not a test. A UL 723 or ASTM E84 result describes how the foam surface burns in a tunnel test at a stated thickness; without both indices and the thickness, the number is not a classification. Where a code official is involved, ask for the report, not the can.

How this page is ordered

Four things we could confirm, and nothing we could not

  • Brand data sheetA technical data sheet published by the maker for this product. A safety data sheet or a web page is recorded but does not earn the mark, and where a sheet carries no date or revision the record says so.
  • Claim checkableFor a fire block foam the mark needs a fireblocking test with a number that can be looked up: a through-penetration or room-corner method such as a modified ASTM E814 or UL 1715, with a listing, file or report number. A surface-burning class does not earn it.
  • Brand-channel sellerThe Amazon seller of record is the brand or a storefront that carries only that brand in our intake. A multi-brand reseller or an unbranded trading company does not earn it.
  • 100 or more ratingsOn the listing we link. A feedback base, not a verdict; how we read reviews is a separate guide.

Why that is the test. The reason is that a surface-burning test does not answer the question this claim makes. ASTM E84 and UL 723 measure how flame and smoke travel across a surface in a tunnel; they say nothing about whether foam in a hole will hold back fire and smoke between two spaces. So one index without the other, a class letter with no standard, and a German B2 or B3 class all fall short, and so does a complete E84 result on its own.

Products are ordered by how many of four things we could confirm, then by the size of the buyer-feedback base: a dated technical data sheet from the brand, a category claim you can check against a figure in a dated document, a marketplace seller that is the brand or its single-brand distributor, and at least 100 ratings on the listing we link. This is not a performance score. Nothing on this page was applied or tested by us.

At a glance

10 fire block products, in evidence order

The number in the first column is a position, not a score: products with more of the four things confirmed come first, and ties are broken by how many people have rated the product. Under each heading is how many products on this page cleared that test. A circle means we looked and it was not there. Prices are the October 29, 2026 snapshot for the cheapest bare-can listing we hold; ratings were read October 29, 2026. Desk note

The cheapest single fire block can here is the 12 oz straw can, and it has a dated sheet of its own beside the 24 oz gun can’s. Both print the full UL 723 result to ASTM E84, flame spread 15 and smoke developed 10; the gun can yields 1,450 ft of half-inch bead and the straw can 389 ft. The fireblocking claim has a report behind it: ICC-ES ESR-3302, named on the straw sheet, evaluates the foam under AC546 for keeping wood fireblocking intact where pipes and wires pass through it, on NFPA 286 room-corner tests. That is what this page asks of a fire block can. Read its limits with it: Type V-B construction under the IBC and non-rated construction under the IRC, at most 18 sq in of exposed foam per square foot of wall, and not a firestop, which both sheets also say. The same tables print DIN 4102 class B3 and EN 13501-1 class F, the bottom class of each, from other test systems. TYTAN gives the gun can an upper limit of 113 F on its sheet and 100 F on its flyer. The orange color is there so an inspector can recognize the can. It identifies the product; it is not a function, a test or an approval.

  • No tested thickness or laboratory for the UL 723 result.
  • ESR-3302 cites NFPA 286 test reports without printing their results.
  • The gun can’s upper temperature limit is 113 F on its sheet and 100 F on TYTAN’s flyer.

Desk note

A dated sheet with a full UL 723 result, flame spread 10 and smoke developed 15, and a stated yield, which puts it ahead of most of the category on paper. The sentence about inspectors recognizing the color does more work than it looks. It calls the can an "approved fire block penetration sealant", and three separate words in that phrase are doing unearned work. Nothing is approved by being orange; no code makes color a requirement or a result. No approval, listing or evaluation report number appears on the sheet, so there is nothing to look up. And "penetration sealant" is the vocabulary of firestopping, a different product class whose systems are tested through a penetration in a rated assembly; this sheet publishes no through-penetration result, and fireblocking, draftstopping and firestopping are separate things throughout this site

  • The 24 oz straw listings are not covered by the 12 oz sheet.
  • No approval, listing or report number behind the words "approved fire block penetration sealant".

Desk note

One of six fire block sheets in the intake that print both surface-burning indices under a named standard, with Sprayman’s undated Fire Stop sheet, Stanley’s F952 sheet and three dated TYTAN sheets. This one is dated and names both cans it sells, and it is the only sheet here that states a bead yield for each of two can sizes on one page, 2,240 ft from the 20.3 fl oz can and 1,493 from the 13.5. That is the shape of a checkable claim. What it still lacks is the tested thickness and a fireblocking test: the ICC-ES listing its product page cites, ESL-1058, covers surface burning only. The brand also sells a gun-grade "Xtreme Pro" fire block (FR 202) that claims Class A to ASTM E84 with a 1/4 to 3 in gap range; we have not matched it to an Amazon listing.

Desk note

The sheet prints UL 723 flame spread 10 and smoke developed 15, which is the same pair Kraken Bond prints; the two TYTAN sheets print 15 and 10. Two things the sheet does not carry keep the mark off: the thickness the sample was tested at, without which a surface-burning number describes an unknown assembly, and a date or revision, without which it describes an unknown formulation. And a surface-burning result is not a fireblocking result. This page is marked on whether the can can be shown to stop fire spreading through a penetration, which is a different test with a different number, and no Sprayman document answers it. The store wording is a separate problem: "fireproof" is wrong for any foam sealant, and "ASTM E84201" is not a designation as written. The sheet is on the brand page, behind a button marked TDS.

  • The sheet carries no tested thickness, so the flame spread and smoke figures cannot be tied to an assembly.
  • The sheet carries no date or revision.
  • The ICC-ES reference has no report number on the straw page; the gun page cites "ICC-ESL-1058."
  • The word "fireproof" remains on the brand page.

Desk note

Akfix’s fire block reaches Amazon in ten listings and its own US store in an empty product page for the straw can. The sheets are elsewhere: on akfix.com, and behind the 840P gun foam page on the same store. Both are 2017 revisions that give DIN 4102-1 class B2 and the words "UL listed", and both describe a 900 g pack rather than the US cans. ICC-ES listing ESL-1058 names the foam for surface burning at a half-inch bead. None of that is a fireblocking test, and a sheet written for the cans sold here is what would move this record.

Document scopeThe gun sheet names the 24 oz PRO gun can and the straw sheet names the 12 oz straw can, so each can has its own dated sheetTDS 27.02.2026 and 24.02.2026

Desk note

A fire block can whose sheet prints a complete surface-burning result, UL 723 to ASTM E84 at flame spread 15 and smoke developed 10, and whose maker names an evaluation report for the fireblocking claim itself. ICC-ES ESR-3302 assesses the foam under AC546, the criteria for foam used to keep wood fireblocking intact where pipes and wires pass through it, on NFPA 286 room-corner tests. That is what this page asks of a fire block can. Read the report’s limits with it: Type V-B construction under the IBC and non-rated construction under the IRC, at most 12 sq in of exposed foam per square foot of wall, and not a firestop, which the sheet also says in its own words. Read the rest of the sheet’s table too: it prints DIN 4102 class B3, the lowest class of that standard, and EN 13501-1 class F, the class for no performance determined; those come from other test systems and sit beside the UL 723 pair without contradicting it. What it is built for is heat: 113 F ambient and can temperature without shrinking, which is the reason the number is in the name.

  • The sheet gives no tested thickness or laboratory for the UL 723 result.
  • ESR-3302 cites NFPA 286 test reports without printing their results.

Class A on the store, B2 on Amazon, and one undated sheet that prints both.

Gun, 20 oz Orange
  • Brand data sheeta technical data sheet is published by the brand, without a date or revision on it
  • Claim checkableThe document that reconciles the two labels exists and still does not earn the mark. It prints a surface-burning pair under UL 723 and a reaction-to-fire class under DIN 4102-1, with no tested thickness, no report or file number and no date. This category asks for a fireblocking result, which is a different test, and no Sprayman document answers it.

Desk note

The same can is described as Class A on the brand site and B2 in the Amazon title. Those answer different questions: Class A is a US surface-burning result under ASTM E84 or UL 723, B2 is a German reaction-to-fire class under DIN 4102-1, and one product can hold results under both. The maker's own sheet prints exactly that: UL 723 flame spread 10 and smoke developed 15 on one line, DIN 4102-1 B2 on the next. The two channels are each quoting a different half of the same sheet, not contradicting each other. What is missing is the thickness the surface-burning sample was tested at, a report or file number for either result, and a date on the sheet. And neither result is a fireblocking result, which is what this page marks.

  • The sheet carries no tested thickness, no report number and no date.
  • No fireblocking test is published for this can, which is the test this category asks for.

Desk note

The gun version of the F952 is documented, but its sheet drops the UL 723 line that the straw sheet carries and replaces it with "moderate fire safety." We read that as honest and as a reason not to assume the two cans share a test result.

Desk note

The one product that belongs to both the gap filler and the fire block sets by its own description: a 3 in gun foam that is "fireblock formulated." It is also the best-known orange can in the trade. On Amazon it reaches buyers through a reseller rather than DuPont, in listings whose titles do not state the pack count, so the same "24 oz" title can be a single can at one price and a case at another. Read the listing body, not the title, before you compare prices.

  • The 30 oz can sold on Amazon does not appear on the brand page, which lists 24 oz only.
  • For fire block use the buyer needs the tested configuration and the index values. DuPont names the methods only; the complete version of such a claim, with file numbers, exists in the trade (Loctite publishes one for its Pro Gaps & Cracks Foam), so this is a publishing choice rather than a limit of the category.

A 30 oz gun foam sold through the same reseller that lists Great Stuff PRO. The maker is DuPont, which was worth five minutes to establish, and DuPont calls the foam recognized as a fireblock on its own page and describes what a fireblock does. What neither the page nor the listing gives is a standard or a pair of indices, so the strongest thing anyone can say about this can is that its maker says the word.

  • DuPont links product information sheets and safety data sheets behind a script; none resolved to a file we could read.

  • The brand store page for the 12 oz straw can has no description and no document.
  • No sheet names the US 12 oz or 25.3 oz cans.

Not listed, and why

Products we know of that are not on this page

  • Great Stuff Fireblock (the consumer 12 oz can, tested to ASTM E84, ASTM E814 modified and UL 1715 per the brand page) was not in the intake.
  • Loctite Pro Gaps & Cracks Foam is the clearest fire block sheet we have read: UL 723 flame spread 5 and smoke developed 0, the tested bead configuration, UL file numbers for both the E84 and the modified E814 tests, and the IRC and IBC sections it addresses. It was not in the Amazon intake, so it is not listed, and it shows what a complete claim looks like.
  • Kraken Bond Xtreme Pro Fire Block FR 202, a gun can claiming Class A to ASTM E84 with a 1/4 to 3 in gap range, is on the brand store and has not been matched to an Amazon listing.
  • Sprayman X-Climate Pro Fire Block is on the brand store with a technical data sheet of its own and was not in the September 7 intake, so it has no record here. It is on the list for the next one.

Questions and answers

Fire block foam questions, answered

Every answer comes from a maker’s data sheet, safety data sheet or manual, or from the records on this page, and says which.

Ask your own
  1. Can I use fire block foam around electrical wires, outlet boxes and low-voltage cable? Buyer question

Most of the makers list electrical work as a use, but none of their documents covers low-voltage cable, cable jackets or foam inside a box. Seven of the nine fire block data sheets we read name it: Stanley’s F952 sheet says "Ideal for penetrations (HVAC, electrical and plumbing), insulating electrical outlets and water pipes," the Kraken Bond, Stanley F952P, Sprayman and both Akfix sheets list insulating electrical outlets, and TYTAN’s Fire Block 113 sheet lists "Sealing around electrical boxes and wiring penetrations." The two TYTAN Fire Block Extreme sheets name no electrical use. Whether a particular box or cable run may be foamed is an electrical code question for the local code official.

  2. Will an inspector accept fire block foam as fireblocking? Buyer question

That is the local code official’s decision, and ICC-ES listing ESL-1058 says so in its own words: "Approval of the product’s use is the sole responsibility of the local code official." That listing names Kraken Bond Extreme Fire Block, Stanley’s fire block foams and Akfix 840 for surface burning at a nominal half-inch bead, and adds that "The listing addresses only conformance with the standards and code sections noted above." The report written for the fireblocking use itself is TYTAN’s ESR-3302, which covers Fire Block, Fire Block 113 and Fire Block Extreme "for maintaining the integrity of penetrations of wood fireblocking," requires the packaging to carry "the evaluation report number (ESR-3302)" and says the maker’s installation instructions "must be available at the jobsite at all times during installation." The same report limits the foam to Type V-B construction under the IBC and non-rated construction under the IRC, and says it "is not intended for use as an alternative to wood fireblocking prescribed by the applicable code."

  3. Which holes actually need fire block foam? Buyer question

The building code decides which openings need fireblocking and the local code official applies it; the documents only say where each foam is meant to go. TYTAN’s evaluation report ESR-3302 covers the "annular space created by the penetration of wood fireblocking by pipes and conduits," says the foam must "completely fill the annular space for the full depth of the plate that has been penetrated" and allows beads of "maximum 2-inch-wide-by-2-inch-thick." Stanley’s F952 sheet lists "Partitions and stud walls, top and bottom stair stringers" and says the foam "SEALS SERVICE PENETRATIONS BETWEEN FLOORS," and TYTAN’s Fire Block Extreme 12 oz sheet lists "Sealing air leaks between floors and walls as required by building code." No sheet says which openings in a particular house must be fireblocked.

  4. Can I use fire block foam as ordinary gap filler or insulation, for example around a window? Buyer question

Most of the makers say yes: seven of the nine fire block data sheets we read list door and window frames as a use, in words such as Kraken Bond’s "Fixing and insulating door and window frames," and TYTAN’s Fire Block Extreme 24 oz sheet says the foam "is safe to be used around windows and doors." Stanley’s F952 sheet prints an R-value of "~4.1 per in." and the three TYTAN sheets print "R value 4 - 5," none of them with a test method beside the figure. All three TYTAN sheets also say "DOOR AND WINDOWS FITTING WITHOUT USING MECHANICAL COUPLING IS FORBIDDEN," so on those cans the foam seals around a frame that is fastened another way. TYTAN Fire Block 113 and the Fire Block Extreme 12 oz straw can name no window use.

  5. How much does fire block foam expand? Buyer question

Of the nine fire block data sheets we read, only TYTAN’s three print a figure: post-expansion of "120 - 150" percent for Fire Block 113, "80 - 110" for the Fire Block Extreme 24 oz gun can and "240 - 270" for the Fire Block Extreme 12 oz straw can, all to EN 17333-2:2020. Both Extreme sheets still describe "minimal post-expansion," the straw sheet beside its 240 - 270 figure. Kraken Bond, Stanley F952, Sprayman and Akfix 840 say only that the foam has a high expansion rate, and the Stanley F952P and Akfix 840P gun sheets say nothing about expansion. For open woodwork the TYTAN sheets add that "gaps >1.18 in (3 cm) are not recommended" and "Gaps >1.97 in (5cm) are unacceptable," although the Extreme sheets also call the foam "capable of filling gaps up to three inches."

  6. Can I use fire block foam around PVC, CPVC or ABS pipes? Buyer question

The sheets speak only to adhesion, not to chemical compatibility with a pipe, and only TYTAN names pipe plastics at all. TYTAN’s Fire Block Extreme 12 oz straw sheet lists "glass, vinyl, PVC, CPVC, plastics and more" among the materials the foam adheres to, its 24 oz sheet and the Fire Block 113 sheet name PVC without CPVC, and all three say "The foam displays lack of adhesion to polyethylene, polypropylene, polyamide, silicone and Teflon." No fire block sheet we read mentions ABS. The Kraken Bond, Stanley, Sprayman and Akfix sheets list "water pipes" as a use without naming a pipe material, and TYTAN’s ESR-3302 covers penetrations "by pipes and conduits" without naming one either.

  7. Which fire block foam prints a complete surface-burning result? From the records

Seven of the listed cans do, on six sheets. Kraken Bond Extreme Fire Block prints UL 723 flame spread 10 and smoke developed 15 in a dated sheet that names both of its cans. Sprayman Fire Block and Pro Fire Block share one sheet that prints the same pair, 10 and 15, with no date or revision; the same sheet also prints DIN 4102-1 class B2, which is why the brand store says Class A and the Amazon title says B2 for one can. Stanley F952 prints the same pair, 10 and 15, on a dated sheet. TYTAN Fire Block 113 and Fire Block Extreme print flame spread 15 and smoke developed 10 in dated sheets for their 24 oz gun cans, and a third dated sheet prints the same pair for the Extreme 12 oz straw can. Great Stuff PRO names three methods with no figures. None of the listed cans prints the tested thickness. A surface-burning pair is not the fireblocking test this page is marked on, and only the TYTAN foams carry that mark: ICC-ES ESR-3302 evaluates them for keeping wood fireblocking intact where it is penetrated, within Type V-B and non-rated residential construction.

  8. What does DIN 4102-1 B2 or B3 mean on a US can? From the records

It is a German reaction-to-fire class from a different test system. B3 is the lowest class and B2 sits above it. Neither is a US surface-burning result and neither maps onto Class A, B or C, so a can that publishes only a DIN class has not told you how it performs under ASTM E84. A product can hold results under both systems; they answer different questions.

  9. Why are Class A and B2 both claimed for the same Sprayman can? From the records

The brand store says Class A and the Amazon title says B2 for the 20 oz Pro Fire Block can. Those are results from two different test systems, ASTM E84 or UL 723 in the US and DIN 4102-1 in Germany, and one product can hold both. Sprayman's own sheet prints both on consecutive lines, UL 723 flame spread 10 and smoke developed 15, then DIN 4102-1 B2, so each channel is quoting half of the same document. The problem is not that they conflict; it is that the sheet carries no date, no tested thickness and no report number, so a reader cannot pin either result to a version or a test set-up.

  10. Is orange foam required by code? From the records

No. Orange is what the trade uses so an inspector can recognize a can sold as fireblocking foam at a glance. The color identifies the product; it is not a function, a test result or an approval. No code makes fire block foam orange, and no orange foam is fire block because of its color. The document decides.
