Research-first buying guide · Updated

A spray foam insulation kit is a case of single-use cans with a threaded gun, sprayed onto an open surface in thin passes. Kraken Bond FastCoat is our pick today, because it is the only kit here whose documentation block scores full marks. Its data sheet is dated and revision-numbered and carries both halves of the claim at once, the 20 board feet a can with the conditions behind it and the surface-burning result, and a full safety data sheet names the company behind the product. Stanley publishes a dated sheet and a safety sheet as well, and its sheet has no fire section at all; the two sheets that do print the fire result carry no date. Four of these brands sent a missing document when we wrote and asked, which counts here but counts a point less, because a document you have to request is not one you can check before you buy. Every kit here claims about that same figure whatever size its cans are, and no maker publishes a measured yield, so read the ranking as a comparison of evidence rather than of performance.

A detailed ranking of gun-applied surface-spray insulation kits. We feature the 24-can variant people actually buy, compare R-value claims only at the same reported thickness and compatible evidence basis, separate surface insulation foam from high-expansion gap filler, and keep manufacturer claims apart from buyer feedback. Each product links to its full review; the complete tracked-product universe is listed at the bottom.

Kraken Bond FastCoat 24-Pack spray foam insulation kit

Kraken Bond FastCoat 24-Pack

What the documents support, out of 100

Scores describe the evidence a buyer can find, not laboratory performance we measured. A product with few points is undocumented rather than poor, and a product can move up the moment a document lands. Every line shows the fact behind it so the arithmetic can be checked or disputed.

Research-set kits are scored by the same rubric and carry a tag. One record in the set is not scored at all: DAP Wall & Cavity is a single can with a wide-spray applicator, and two of the six groups ask what is in the kit box and what a pack costs per ounce beside a 24-can kit, so a total would rank it against kits on the two things it cannot be. Its page says so and reads its documents in full. The score is a mechanical output of that rubric: given the same documents, anyone applying the criteria gets the same number, though the criteria and their weights are our editorial choices. The ranked order above is ours rather than the score in order, and the two are printed together so the difference is visible rather than hidden. Where we have placed a kit against its own score, that kit carries the reason next to it: today the order and the score agree all the way down, so nothing carries one. The status badge says what state a file is in and moves nothing. Neither the score nor the order is a performance test.

Every point, and the fact behind it
Technical data sheet 12 / 12 Dated 1.19.2026, rev. 1. Stanley’s sheet also carries a date and a revision and scores the same here; what separates them is A3.
Safety data sheet 6 / 6 A thirteen-page GHS safety data sheet for FastCoat, issued 10.05.2025 at version 0.0, naming Lotus Global Trade LLC as supplier with a CHEMTREC emergency line and the product code GF-B2/IF2220. It is published on krakenchem.com, the corporate site behind the brand, on a page that carries safety data sheets for the whole Kraken Bond range. The shop that sells the kit does not link it, which is why we read this record as zero until 2026-09-12. A distributor, profoam.com, hosts a copy behind a form.
Fire evidence 12 / 12 ASTM E84 and UL 723 at 2 inches, flame spread 15 or less and smoke developed 40 or less, with nothing on the sheet contradicting it. We have also seen the test report behind the result; Kraken Bond does not publish it, so neither do we.
Net contents per can 4 / 4 Net weight 27.1 oz on the sheet and in the listing title.
Yield stated with its conditions 4 / 4 Up to 20 board feet at 1 inch, single layer, from about 16 inches at normal speed.
R-value, published and how high 4 / 4 R-11.32 at 2 inches in the manual, consistent with 5.66 a layer: 3 for a figure stated at a thickness and agreeing across channels, 1 for the magnitude, which is the highest an inch in the set.
Density published 0 / 4 No density or specific gravity on this sheet. The 0.94 plus or minus 0.06 lb/ft3 under ASTM D1622 in this set is printed on the Akfix ThermCoat sheet only and is not transferred here: the two sheets share the conductivity, R-value, compression and yield lines, and this one prints a skin time of 5 plus or minus 2 minutes under ASTM C1620 where the Akfix sheet prints a tack-free time of 4, and nothing from either maker says the two cans hold one formulation. Read 2026-09-14.
Maker identity 4 / 4 Both tests are met. The product’s own safety data sheet names Lotus Global Trade LLC as supplier, with an email and a CHEMTREC emergency line. And krakenchem.com is a corporate site, separate from the shop, that publishes that sheet along with safety data sheets for the rest of the range. The store publishes a trade name, a phone and a US address as well.
Equipment in the box 5 / 5 Gun, two cleaners, two wide-spray cans and safety gear. The wide-spray cans likely stopped coming in the box by October 10, 2026; the rule does not count them, so the points stand.
Material in the pack 4 / 4 24 cans at 27.1 oz, 650.4 oz of product.
Pack sizes you can pick from 3 / 3 Ten pack sizes on one page of the brand store, from a single can to 192, each offered twice over, as a foam kit or as cans only, so a buyer picks the size and the contents in the same selector. Read 2026-09-12.
How widely it is sold 3 / 3 Six channels on 2026-09-12: the brand store, Amazon, Walmart, Walmart Business, profoam.com and conservationmart.com. The widest distribution in the set.
Cost per ounce of product 12.8 / 15 369.99 dollars on the brand store for the 24-can kit, 650.4 oz, is 0.569 an ounce, against the 0.484 benchmark. Read 2026-09-07.
Marketplace rating and buying signal 8.7 / 15 4.0 from 429 Amazon ratings on the pack this page compares, read 2026-09-12, worth 4.7 of the seven rating points. Bought-in-past-month badges on 3 of the pack-size listings in the Amazon variation family of the 24-can kit, ASIN B0D2RKTQ15, add to 200, which is the 4-point band: the 12-can set at 100+, the 24-can set at 50+ and the 18-can set at 50+. 15 of the 18 listings in the family were read on 2026-09-12; Amazon served a bot check for the other 3, which are unknown rather than zero, so the band is what the 15 support.
Brand store rating, weighted by verified count 4.2 / 5 4.66 across 283 reviews on krakenbond.net, read 2026-09-12, of which 275 carry the platform’s verified-purchase label, 97 percent. The average is over all 283; the 275 is the weight. The largest verified count of any brand store here.

Research desk note · editorial opinion, not a test result

The only kit here whose documentation block scores full marks. The data sheet is dated and revision-numbered and carries both the yield basis and the surface-burning result; a thirteen-page safety data sheet names the supplier and an emergency line; and all of it is on the maker’s own site rather than arriving by email. The safety sheet took some finding. It is not on the shop that sells the kit; it sits on krakenchem.com, the corporate site behind the brand, alongside sheets for the rest of the range, and it is also the document that names the company standing behind the product.

Every point, and the fact behind it
Technical data sheet 6 / 12 A USA data sheet is published but carries no date or revision.
Safety data sheet 5 / 6 Not on the brand store, and not on akfix.com either: the corporate product page publishes a technical data sheet, a brochure and the group catalog, and no safety data sheet. Akfix customer support sent one when our desk asked, and it matched the product, so this scores one point below a published sheet.
Fire evidence 12 / 12 ASTM E84 and UL 723 at 2 inches with both indices. The same sheet also states a DIN 4102-1 class of B3, which is a different test system rather than a contradiction; we have asked which result applies to the pack sold here.
Net contents per can 2 / 4 The listing says 27.1 oz a can and the sheet says 28.7 oz.
Yield stated with its conditions 4 / 4 Yield 20 board feet at 1 inch, applied from about 16 inches.
R-value, published and how high 4 / 4 R-11.32 at 2 inches in the guide, consistent with 5.66 an inch: 3 for the publication, 1 for the magnitude.
Density published 4 / 4 Specific gravity 0.94 plus or minus 0.06 lb/ft3 under ASTM D1622, printed on this sheet. The sheet’s label is specific gravity, which has no unit; lb/ft3 is a density unit and ASTM D1622 is the density test for rigid cellular plastics, so the line is read as a density. It sits inside the 0.5 to 2.0 lb/ft3 the rim-joist exception needs, as the maker’s figure for cured foam rather than an installed density anyone has verified. It is printed on this sheet alone: the FastCoat, SprayCoat and SuperCoat sheets carry no density line and do not score it. DAP Wall & Cavity prints one of its own, to the same method, and is a can rather than a kit so it is not scored here.
Maker identity 3 / 4 One test of the two. akfix.com is a corporate site, separate from the shop, and it publishes this product’s own technical data sheet, a brochure and the group catalog. What is missing is the other half: no legal entity is named on the product’s document. The US store publishes a trade name, a phone and an address.
Equipment in the box 5 / 5 Gun, cleaner and protective equipment in the set.
Material in the pack 4 / 4 24 cans at the listing figure of 27.1 oz, 650.4 oz of product.
Pack sizes you can pick from 3 / 3 Sixteen options on one page of the brand store covering eight pack sizes with and without the applicator set. Read 2026-09-12.
How widely it is sold 3 / 3 Five channels on 2026-09-12: the brand store, Amazon, Walmart, masterbuildingmaterials.com and atlas-machinery.com.
Cost per ounce of product 14.3 / 15 329.99 dollars on the brand store for the 24-can set, 650.4 oz, is 0.507 an ounce. Read 2026-09-07.
Marketplace rating and buying signal 11.8 / 15 4.2 from 585 Amazon ratings on the pack this page compares, read 2026-09-12, worth 5.8 of the seven rating points. Bought-in-past-month badges on 4 of the 12 pack-size listings in the Amazon variation family of the 24-can set, ASIN B0FKBSB2LQ, add to 450, which is the 6-point band: the 24-can set at 200+, the 18-can set at 100+ and the 12-can set at 100+ are the largest. All 12 listings in the family were read on 2026-09-12.
Brand store rating, weighted by verified count 2.6 / 5 4.65 across 34 reviews on akfixstore.com, read 2026-09-12, of which 32 carry the platform’s verified-purchase label, 94 percent. The average is over all 34; the 32 is the weight.

Research desk note · editorial opinion, not a test result

This sheet publishes a density, 0.94 plus or minus 0.06 lb/ft3 under ASTM D1622, labeled specific gravity on the sheet and read here as a density because lb/ft3 is a density unit. It is one of the three conditions the residential code sets for foam left exposed at a rim joist, and it is the maker’s figure for cured foam rather than an installed density anyone has verified. The FastCoat, SprayCoat and SuperCoat sheets share several lines with this one and carry no density line of their own, so the figure stays with this sheet. That is a real advantage and we have said so. It sits beside a real question. The same properties table states a fire class of B3 under DIN 4102-1, the lowest class of that standard, a few lines above an ASTM E84 Class A note. The likeliest explanation is a legacy line from a European sheet, and we have asked the manufacturer which applies to the product sold here. On documents, akfix.com does what few brands here do: it publishes this product’s own technical sheet, a brochure and the group catalog on a corporate site rather than only in the shop. What it does not publish anywhere is a safety data sheet; customer support sent one when we asked.

Technical data sheet 12 / 12 A data sheet dated 25.03.2025 rev. 1, published on the maker’s own documents page, naming the product as F 990P.
Safety data sheet 6 / 6 A safety data sheet on the same documents page as the technical sheet, which only TYTAN also manages: GHS-US, issue date 17.07.2023, supplier Nucleus Incorporated, with a CHEMTREC emergency line and OSHA exposure limits.
Fire evidence 11 / 12 Nothing on the maker’s own paperwork: the data sheet has no fire section at all, no standard, no index and no thickness, and the printed manual does not mention fire either. What exists is a test report that Stanley customer support sent when our desk asked for it, carrying the brand name and both surface-burning indices, which we matched to the product being sold. That is the second tier of this criterion and scores one point below a result a buyer could read before buying. A buyer who wants it has to ask for it, which is the point the score is making.
Net contents per can 4 / 4 Net 27.1 oz on the data sheet and in the listing, with a second 16 oz size also documented.

Brand store rating, weighted by verified count 0 / 5 Stanley sells through retailers rather than direct, so there is no store review base to read.

Research desk note · editorial opinion, not a test result

A dated technical sheet and a proper GHS-US safety data sheet, with a named supplier and an emergency line, on the maker’s own documents page. The fire result is the odd one out: the technical sheet has no fire section at all, no standard, no index, no thickness, and the manual read end to end on 2026-09-11 mentions fire only in the aerosol safety lines, while the listing says Class A fire-rated. Stanley customer support sent the test report when our desk asked for it, carrying the brand name and both indices, and we matched it to the product being sold. That is what this line now scores, one point under a result a buyer could have read before buying. Be plain about what that means for you: without writing to support, a buyer cannot see the evidence behind the Class A wording at all. The manual also states that the Stanley name is used under license and that the product is distributed by Nucleus Inc.

Material in the pack 4 / 4 24 cans at the retail figure of 27.1 oz, 650.4 oz of product.
Pack sizes you can pick from 3 / 3 Ten pack sizes on one page of the brand store, from a single can to 192, each as a set with the gun, cleaner and safety kit or as cans only, and the set contents are named in the option itself. Read 2026-09-12.
How widely it is sold 1 / 3 Three channels on 2026-09-12: the brand store, Amazon and Walmart. No third-party retailer found.
Cost per ounce of product 15 / 15 314.95 dollars on the brand store for the 24-can set, 650.4 oz, is 0.484 an ounce, the benchmark itself. Read 2026-09-07.
Marketplace rating and buying signal 9.1 / 15 4.1 from 471 Amazon ratings on the pack this page compares, read 2026-09-12, worth 5.1 of the seven rating points. Bought-in-past-month badges on 2 of the pack-size listings in the Amazon variation family of the 24-can set, ASIN B0BVKVKXV7, add to 200, which is the 4-point band: the 24-can set at 100+ and the 12-can set at 100+. 14 of the 18 listings in the family were read on 2026-09-12; Amazon served a bot check for the other 4, which are unknown rather than zero, so the band is what the 14 support.
Brand store rating, weighted by verified count 2.9 / 5 4.77 across 44 reviews on sprayman.co, read 2026-09-12, and all 44 carry the platform’s verified-purchase label, 100 percent, the only store here at that share. The average is over the 44 and the weight is the 44.

Research desk note · editorial opinion, not a test result

Fire data is complete and stated the same way as the leader's, at a 2-inch thickness with both indices, and a fire test report came back when our desk asked customer support for one. The safety data sheet came the same way. Neither is on the brand site: sprayman.co publishes fourteen pages and not one of them is a documents page, so a buyer who wants either has to write and wait, which is why both score a point under a published document rather than the full mark. Two things keep this record open. The sheet carries no date or revision, so there is no way to tell whether you are reading the current version. And the retail page says 27.1 oz a can while the sheet says 28.7 oz, which is the first number any document check needs to agree on.

Every point, and the fact behind it
Technical data sheet 0 / 12 No technical data sheet on the official page, on the maker’s safety page or on either marketplace listing. Our desk asked BEEST customer support for one and none was sent, so there is nothing to read and nothing to score.
Safety data sheet 6 / 6 A thirteen-page GHS safety data sheet for FULLSTOP, issued 30 January 2026 and revised 9 March 2026 at version 1.1, supplier PetraTools of Carlisle with a ChemTrec line. It sits on the maker’s own safety page, which the product page does not link.
Fire evidence 4 / 12 Both indices are published, in the quick start guide the maker links from its safety page: flame spread 0 and smoke development 120 to ASTM E84, which is inside Class A on both counts. What is missing is the tested thickness, the laboratory and the report number, so the result cannot be tied to an assembly. Our desk also asked customer support for the test report. Something came back, and it describes a foam of a different color and carries no brand name, so we could not match it to the product being sold. An unmatched report earns nothing here, and this score is the published guide’s alone.
Net contents per can 2 / 4 The can label reads "Net: 26.8 Oz / 762 g" and is legible in the maker’s own product image on its own store, read 2026-09-12. The two figures agree with each other. No channel states it in text, so it can be read only off the package.
Yield stated with its conditions 4 / 4 The quick start guide gives the layer, the distance and the speed: thin coats of about 1 inch, 15 to 30 minutes apart, to a minimum of 2 inches total, sprayed 12 inches from a wall and 6 to 8 from a ceiling at a slow steady sweeping pace. The listing title still states board feet and square feet as the same number.
R-value, published and how high 1.5 / 4 R-8.24 at 2 inches on two channels, against 8.14 in the Walmart specification field, so 1.5 rather than 3 for a figure the channels do not agree on. The magnitude adds nothing: 4.12 an inch is the lowest of any kit here that states an R-value, and it takes about 2.75 inches of this foam to reach what the four coats reach in 2.
Density published 0 / 4 No data sheet on any channel, so no density or specific gravity to read.
Maker identity 3 / 4 The safety data sheet names PetraTools at 411 Northeast Street, Carlisle, Pennsylvania, with a phone number, and the store publishes the same address as Beest USA. There is no corporate site apart from the shop.
Equipment in the box 5 / 5 Gun, cleaners and protective equipment, with a second cleaner from 24 cans up.
Material in the pack 4 / 4 24 cans at the 26.8 oz on the label, 643.2 oz of product.
Pack sizes you can pick from 0 / 3 The brand store sells seven pack sizes and gives each one its own page with a single fixed option, so there is no size selector anywhere on it. One point comes off on top of that: the gun, the cleaner and the safety kit are listed as separate products priced at zero rather than being part of the pack, which is why ordering more than one pack does not get you more than one gun. Read 2026-09-12.
How widely it is sold 1 / 3 Three channels on 2026-09-12: the brand store, Amazon and Walmart, which carries the 12-pack and the 24-pack. No third-party retailer found.
Cost per ounce of product 11.7 / 15 399.99 dollars on the brand store for the 24-can kit, 643.2 oz on the can label, is 0.622 an ounce. Read 2026-09-12.
Marketplace rating and buying signal 13.9 / 15 4.2 from 611 Amazon ratings on the pack this page compares, read 2026-09-12, worth 5.9 of the seven rating points. Bought-in-past-month badges on 12 of the 14 pack-size listings in the Amazon variation family of the 24-can kit, ASIN B0DZJ25N8V, add to 2,350, which is the 8-point band: the 12-can kit at 1K+, the 24-can kit at 200+ and the 12-can foam-only pack at 200+ are the largest. All 14 listings in the family were read on 2026-09-12. The sum is Amazon’s estimate of recent purchasers on those listings, not units shipped, and a customer who bought two sizes can be counted twice.
Brand store rating, weighted by verified count 2.4 / 5 4.56 across 225 reviews on beestusa.com, read 2026-09-12, of which 25 carry the platform’s verified-purchase label, 11 percent. The average is over all 225; the 25 is the weight. The store holds the platform’s top Authentic Shop medal, which is a ratio taken over a different set and does not describe the reviews on this product page.

Research desk note · editorial opinion, not a test result

Everything this kit publishes is real and almost none of it is where a buyer would look. The safety data sheet, the quick start guide with the full application method, and both surface-burning indices sit on a safety page; the net contents are legible only on the can in the product photograph; the page that sells the kit links none of it. What is genuinely open is the part a fire claim rests on: no tested thickness, no laboratory, no report number, and no technical data sheet at all. The net contents are published, though only on the can itself: the label in the maker’s own product photograph reads 26.8 oz, 762 g, which is what the cost-per-ounce figure divides by. It has the largest Amazon rating pool of the kits we track and the largest bought-in-past-month sum, 2,350 across the 14 pack-size listings read on September 12, 2026, and it scores highest on the feedback block by a distance. That badge is Amazon’s estimate of recent purchasers rather than a count of units shipped, and the block is capped at twenty, which is worth holding in mind beside the rest of this record: what carries this kit’s score is the feedback block, not what it can show you. Our desk wrote to customer support for the missing paperwork. The safety data sheet came back and matched. No technical data sheet came back at all. Something came back for the fire report, and it describes a foam of a different color with no brand name on it, so we could not tie it to the product being sold and it earns nothing. The buying side has its own quirk worth knowing before you order more than one pack: the gun, the cleaner and the safety kit are listed on the store as separate products priced at zero rather than being part of the kit, so two packs in a basket still comes with one gun. Its store rating comes with a second number. The FullStop page shows 4.56 across 225 reviews, and 25 of the 225 carry the platform’s verified-purchase label. The store holds the platform’s top authenticity medal, which is a ratio taken over a different set and says nothing about the 225.

Every point, and the fact behind it
Technical data sheet 12 / 12 A US data sheet on the maker’s own site, tytan.com/us, updated 26.02.2026, for the 29 oz gun foam.
Safety data sheet 6 / 6 A thirteen-page GHS safety data sheet on the same page, prepared 4 June 2024 by Selena USA of Fort Worth, with a ChemTrec emergency line.
Fire evidence 4 / 12 The sheet prints a flammability class of B3 to DIN 4102, that standard’s lowest class. There is no ASTM E84 or UL 723 result, no indices and no thickness, and the product makes no Class A claim on any channel.
Net contents per can 4 / 4 29 oz on the data sheet, the store and the listing.
Yield stated with its conditions 4 / 4 21 board feet a can, sprayed from about 30 cm and no more than 50, in layers of 2 to 3 cm, no more than 4 cm at once and no more than five layers, moving the gun slowly.
R-value, published and how high 1.5 / 4 The sheet gives a heat conductivity of 0.036 W/mK rather than an R-value at a thickness, so 1.5 for a figure not published in the form this criterion asks for. It works out at about R-4.0 an inch, against the 5.66 the four coats print from 0.025 W/mK, which adds nothing on magnitude: same wall, roughly two-thirds of the resistance.
Density published 4 / 4 Specific gravity 0.93 to 1.12 lb/ft3 on the US sheet, inside the 0.5 to 2.0 the rim-joist exception needs. The method is not named on that line; the maker names ASTM D1622, the density test, in its own listing.
Maker identity 4 / 4 The safety data sheet names Selena USA, Inc. at 4055 International Plaza, Fort Worth, with a ChemTrec line, and tytan.com/us is a corporate site with a product catalog behind it.
Equipment in the box 5 / 5 The 24-pack listing states a Precision Max applicator gun, a universal foam cleaner and safety gear in the box.
Material in the pack 4 / 4 24 cans at 29 oz, 696 oz of product.
Pack sizes you can pick from 1 / 3 Six Thermospray pack sizes on the brand store, from a single can to 24, but each is a separate product page with one fixed option, so a buyer has to leave the page to change size. Read 2026-09-12.
How widely it is sold 1 / 3 Three channels on 2026-09-12: the brand store, Amazon and devcondistribution.com. Not found on Walmart.
Cost per ounce of product 6.7 / 15 750.00 dollars on the brand store for the 24-can kit, 696 oz, is 1.078 an ounce, read 2026-09-12. The same store sells twelve cans without the gun at 235.20, which is 0.676 an ounce.
Marketplace rating and buying signal 0.4 / 15 3.9 from 3 Amazon ratings on the pack this page compares, read 2026-09-12, worth 0.4 of the seven rating points. No bought-in-past-month badge on any pack-size listing read in the Amazon variation family of the 24-can kit, ASIN B0FQ672N7M, so the badge half scores nothing. 7 of the 8 listings in the family were read on 2026-09-12; Amazon served a bot check for the other one, which is unknown rather than zero.
Brand store rating, weighted by verified count 0 / 5 4.75 across 16 reviews on store.tytan.com, read 2026-09-12, and none of the 16 carries the platform’s verified-purchase label, so the weight is zero and the line scores nothing. The average is over all 16.

Research desk note · editorial opinion, not a test result

The paperwork is there and the shopfront hides it. Selena USA publishes a US data sheet for the 29 oz can, updated February 2026, and a thirteen-page safety data sheet, both on tytan.com/us, and neither the brand store nor the Amazon listing links either. What the sheet does not carry is a US fire result: it prints DIN 4102 class B3 and no ASTM E84, and the product claims no Class A anywhere, which is a plainer position than much of this category takes. Three ratings is not a feedback base to read, and the store’s own 4.75 is a different kind of number: it is averaged over sixteen reviews on store.tytan.com, read one page at a time, and none of the sixteen carries the platform’s verified-purchase label.

Technical data sheet 0 / 12 No data sheet on the brand store or either marketplace. The Product Specs block on ixirpro.com prints a composition, a density, a flash point and a hazard summary, with no date, no revision and no test method, which the rule does not count as a sheet.
Safety data sheet 0 / 6 No safety data sheet published.
Fire evidence 0 / 12 No fire claim and no report.
Net contents per can 2 / 4 Three figures for one can: the Amazon title says 25.4 oz, the Amazon detail table and the box say 26.46 oz (750 g), and Walmart says 25.4 oz.
Yield stated with its conditions 2 / 4 Up to 20 board feet a can on the ixirpro.com kit page and the foam-only listing, and the on-page calculator states it at one inch. A thickness and a 25 to 30 cm spray distance, with no layer and no speed.
R-value, published and how high 2.5 / 4 R-5.66 an inch in the FAQ and the calculator on ixirpro.com and on the chem2go listing, R-5.6 an inch on the foam-only Amazon listing. Stated at a thickness, but not the same figure on every channel, so 1.5 for publication, plus 1 for the magnitude, which is level with the best here.
Density published 0 / 4 A density of 22 plus or minus 3 kg/m3 in the Product Specs block on ixirpro.com, with no test method named, which this criterion does not score. Converted it is about 1.4 lb/ft3, inside the 0.5 to 2.0 the rim-joist exception needs.

Brand store rating, weighted by verified count 1.6 / 5 4.79 across 310 reviews on ixirpro.com, read 2026-09-12, of which 7 carry the platform’s verified-purchase label, 2 percent. The average is over all 310; the 7 is the weight. The largest review base on any brand store here and the smallest verified count on any store that has one.

Research desk note · editorial opinion, not a test result

Cheap per ounce, well distributed, and the most forthcoming of the kits that publish no document: the product page carries a composition, a density of 22 plus or minus 3 kg/m3, a flash point and a hazard summary. None of it is dated, revised or tied to a test method, which is the difference between a specification block and a sheet, and it is why the paperwork group still scores nothing. The can size changes between Amazon and Walmart, the R-value is 5.66 on the store and 5.6 on the listing, and the seller behind the brand also sells Magic Chems and Y’allCanDIY. A data sheet would move this a long way; there is none. Its store rating deserves a second look too: ixirpro.com shows 4.79 across 310 reviews and seven of the 310 carry the platform’s verified-purchase label. That is the largest review base on any brand store in this set and the smallest verified count on any store that has one.

Everything it states, it states in page copy. R-5.66 an inch and 20 sq ft a can at one inch are both there, on the brand store, in every Amazon description and on chem2go, and neither is attached to a sheet, a method or a date. The 5.66 is the category default rather than a finding: six other kits here print the identical figure. The 2-can and 3-can foam packs are titled with the same “Covers up to 480 sq ft” the 24-can pack uses, which is the kind of error that costs a buyer a second order. A data sheet is the only thing that would move this score much, and there is none.

No bought-in-past-month badge on any pack-size listing read in the Amazon variation family of the 6-can kit, ASIN B0D9CKSJCN, so the badge half scores nothing. 6 of the 9 listings in the family were read on 2026-09-12; Amazon served a bot check for the other 3, which are unknown rather than zero.
Brand store rating, weighted by verified count 2.1 / 5 4.75 across 68 reviews on yallcandiy.com, read 2026-09-12, of which 15 carry the platform’s verified-purchase label, 22 percent. The average is over all 68; the 15 is the weight.

Research desk note · editorial opinion, not a test result

The only can seller that prints a closed-cell percentage, and it is 80, below what the two-component sheets call closed cell. The R-8 at 2 in the listing states, which works out at R-4.0 an inch, agrees with that. Two can sizes and two units for one can keep the identity line low; a sheet would settle all of it.

All 7 listings in the family were read on 2026-09-12.
Brand store rating, weighted by verified count 0 / 5 4.7 from 12 reviews written into adhesiveguru.com as structured data by a third-party app. There is no review widget on the page any more and nothing carries a verified flag, so no verified review can be counted. That is a zero for want of evidence rather than a judgement on the store. The seller decides which reviews appear at all, which is why the block is capped at five points.

Research desk note · editorial opinion, not a test result

A complete kit at a ranked-kit price, with another brand’s product name in its own bullet and an R-value that exists only in a Walmart table. The price line is not computable: the 32.8 oz is not stated as net or gross on any channel, and BigRizy’s listing prints 27.2 oz net for a can of the same stated size, which would put the real cost per ounce about a fifth higher. One thing about the Amazon reviews is worth knowing. Of the 413 displayed reviews we read across 47 listings in this category, 406 carry a Verified Purchase badge. All seven that do not are on one listing, the 12-pack of this brand’s foam, where seven of the eight reviews on show carry no badge. Amazon displays only a handful per page and picks them itself, so that is a sample rather than the whole pool.

How many of each store’s own reviews carry the verified-purchase label

A star average on a shop the seller runs is the number that seller controls most completely. The review platform marks each review it can match to an order in that shop, so the two figures can be read side by side. No marketplace publishes the same breakdown, which is why this table is brand stores only. Three of these stores have nine in ten verified; four have fewer than one in five.

Every review a maker’s own store shows for the kit, counted one page at a time, with the platform’s verified-buyer flag read off each one. A review is verified when the platform can match it to an order in that shop. Unverified does not mean false: someone who bought on a marketplace and wrote on the brand’s own site is genuine and unmatched. It means that many of the reviews behind the average carry no order the platform could see. Marketplace ratings are not in this table, because no marketplace publishes the same breakdown. Read 2026-09-12. How this enters the score.

Two numbers, on purpose. The score is what the documents support. The confidence level is what we think of that evidence, stated as opinion and kept out of the arithmetic on purpose, so that no view of ours can move a product up or down the order. Settled is rare on purpose: it means nothing about the evidence is left to ask.

  • Settled. The documents agree with each other and with the listings, and no question is outstanding.
  • Watching. The documents are there and we have asked the seller something we have not had an answer to.
  • Open. Core documents are missing or a headline claim cannot be checked at all.

Scored on from the documents, listings and prices named in each line. How the rating is built.

The number nobody checks

Every kit claims 20 board feet a can, whatever is in the can

Board feet is a volume of finished foam. Ounces is the material you are sold. Divide one by the other and the category stops making sense.

Read the last two columns together. Every kit in the table claims 20 board feet a can, or 21 in one case, and the cans range from 36.6 oz down to 25.4 oz. A 36.6 oz can and a 25.4 oz can cannot both turn into 20 board feet of the same foam. On the sellers' own figures the claimed output per ounce of product varies by 44 percent across the set, from 0.546 to 0.787.

That does not tell you which product is better, and we are not saying the larger cans perform worse. It tells you something more useful: 20 board feet a can is a category convention rather than a measured property of each product. Nobody publishes a measured yield, so the figure cannot be checked against anything, and it is the same number whether you buy 25.4 ounces or 36.6.

What to do with it. When two kits both say 480 board feet, compare the total ounces you are being sold and the price per ounce, because that part is real and published. Then read the coverage and yield guide for what a rated figure does and does not promise, and the value page for that division done across every product we hold a price for, and ask any seller for a measured yield with the conditions it was measured under. Every claimed output here is stated at a 1-inch layer, which is the only basis the whole set shares, and at 1 inch a board foot and a square foot are the same area. Double the thickness and the area halves. The R-value column is brought to the same basis: where a maker publishes a figure at 2 inches it is halved, and the row says so. BEEST FullStop publishes no net contents in text on any channel; the 26.8 oz used here is read off the can label in the maker’s own product photograph. Adhesive Guru QuickCoat states 32.8 oz a can without saying whether that is net or gross, so its ounces may be a gross figure and its per-ounce column is read with that in mind.

Figures read from each seller's Amazon listing and official store on September 7, 2026. Kraken Bond and Sprayman state theirs in a dated technical data sheet; the rest state it in listing text only. The same arithmetic is applied to every brand in the table. Prices are snapshots, each dated where it appears, not live figures, so check the seller before you pay.

The other half of the number

What buyers say when the yield is not there

The claim above cannot be checked against a document, because no seller publishes a measured yield. It can be checked against the people who bought the kit and sprayed it.

How we read them. On September 8, 2026 we read every review Amazon displays on the product page of 19 listings, 171 reviews in all, and took out the 41 rated one or two stars. 33 of those 41 were posted in the United States and the rest came from other marketplaces that Amazon shows on the same page. We sorted them by what the complaint was about.

17of 41

The kit did not go as far as the box said

Seventeen of the 41 say the material ran out well before the claimed area was covered, and several give their own arithmetic. This is the single most common complaint, and it is the one that appears under brands rated 4.0 and above as often as under the low-rated ones.

12of 41

A can or a gun stopped working part way through

Twelve describe hardware rather than foam: a nozzle that cracked or would not stay on, a can that lost pressure with half its contents left, cans from the same box that behaved differently, a gun that clogged and would not clear with the cleaner supplied. A kit that fails at the gun wastes the cans still in the box.

9of 41

The foam fell off the surface it was aimed at

Nine report foam that balled up, ran, sagged or blew back off overhead and vertical surfaces, so a large part of the can ended up on the floor. Several name a temperature at or below the low end of the can instructions, which is where this behavior is expected.

6of 41

The spray pattern was not the one advertised

Six say the can sprayed a stream or spat rather than laying the wide fan shown in the listing. On wide-spray products this is a claim about the applicator, and it is checkable only against a document none of these sellers publishes.

Read the two halves of this page together. Every kit in the table above claims about 20 board feet a can, no seller publishes a measured yield, and the most common complaint buyers leave is that the yield was not there. The complaint is not confined to the cheap end: it is filed against kits rated 4.0, 4.2 and 4.4 as readily as against the ones rated 3.1. That pattern is what you would expect if the number were a category convention rather than a measured property, which is exactly what the arithmetic above suggests.

24 cans covered about 160 board foot. No where close to 480.
Sprayman SprayCoat One star, August 29, 2026 A stated result against a stated claim, on a kit rated 4.1.
It does not cover no where close to the 20LF as mentioned.
Kraken Bond FastCoat One star, October 23, 2025 From a reviewer who describes 15 years of professional spray foam work, on a kit rated 4.0.
Product only covered about half of advertised area, came out in globs, did not spray smoothly.
Akfix ThermCoat One star, July 12, 2026 On a kit rated 4.2 from 581 ratings, the second largest pool in the set.

BONDURE One star, July 1, 2026 Both the area and the thickness are stated, which is what a coverage claim needs and rarely gets.

The foam didn’t stick to the roof very well and it didn’t reach a thickness of even one inch in most areas.
ixirpro One star, May 22, 2026 The reviewer lists what was checked before spraying: temperature inside the stated limits, surface misted, can shaken, first layer left to cure.
Some cans worked while others would not. Paid a lot of money for a product that only worked 50%
BONDURE One star, August 1, 2026 The hardware complaint in its plainest form.
First can stopped spraying but still had about half the can left. Not a clogged spout!! Just ran out of pressure.
DAP Wall and Cavity Two stars, September 12, 2025 A can that cannot be emptied is a coverage problem as well as a hardware one.

A review is one person, unverified, writing after a job went badly, and people who are satisfied write less often. Read the star share as a flag to check a claim, never as a measurement of the product. Where a seller answered a complaint we say so: the reviewer quoted on the Magic Chems 2-pack later added that the seller reviewed the photos, agreed the spray pattern was wrong and refunded the purchase. One more thing belongs on every figure on this page. Amazon removed a large number of reviews across the marketplace during 2026, and averages and counts on some listings moved noticeably as a result. A rating read today is a reading of a number that is still settling, not a settled one, which is part of why the feedback block is capped at twenty points out of a hundred and why eight of its twenty points read Amazon’s bought-in-past-month estimate rather than the stars. Ratings, review counts and star shares are as Amazon reported them on September 8, 2026, and they move. The full working, including one account we read and decided not to publish, is in our buyer report note of the same date.

On the makers’ own documents they are not equivalent: the two-part kits print a higher density and an aged R-value to a named test, and only one of the seven one-component kit documents we could read prints an aged R-value at all. DuPont’s Froth-Pak information sheet prints a density of 1.75 lb/ft3 and an R-value of 6.2 at 1 in aged 180 days at 75 F to ASTM C518, and HandiFoam’s FR sheet prints 6.4 at 1 in on the same aging. The one can-kit exception is DAP’s Wall & Cavity sheet, aged R-4.1 at 1 in to ASTM C518; the FastCoat, SprayCoat, ThermCoat and SuperCoat sheets print R-5.66 per inch beside a thermal conductivity of 0.025 W/m.K to DIN 52612, with no aging stated. Every density a can-kit document prints is below 1.75: 0.94 plus or minus 0.06 lb/ft3 on Akfix’s ThermCoat sheet, "0,93 - 1,12" lb/ft3 on TYTAN’s Thermospray sheet, which writes decimals with a comma, and 1.4 plus or minus .20 pcf on DAP’s. The four coat sheets also ask for 2 in built up in a minimum of 3 layers, where Froth-Pak’s sheet says it "can be applied up to 2 inches thick in one pass."

  2. Do I need a vapor barrier over one-component spray foam? Buyer question

None of the one-component kit documents we read calls its foam a vapor retarder, so the documents do not settle it for you. DAP’s Wall & Cavity sheet prints a water vapor transmission of 4.1 perm at 1 in to ASTM E96, and TYTAN’s Thermospray sheet prints "2,952" perm to ASTM E 96, which with the decimal comma the sheet uses throughout reads as 2.952, and states no thickness; the FastCoat, SprayCoat, ThermCoat and SuperCoat sheets print no permeance figure at all. The only sheet in our set that gives a foam a vapor retarder class is HandiFoam’s two-component FR sheet, "0.9 perms - Class II Vapor Retarder" at 1 in. Whether a wall or roof needs a separate vapor retarder is a code question: DuPont’s ICC-ES report for Froth-Pak puts it as "A vapor retarder must be installed when required by the applicable code," and your local code official decides what that code requires.

  3. Will one-component spray foam stick to metal, and will a pole barn, container or van sweat behind it? Buyer question

The sheets say the foam bonds to metal, and only TYTAN puts a number on it: its Thermospray sheet prints adhesion to steel of "≥ 80" kPa tested on a 20 mm gap and lists metal garages and garden sheds among its uses. Kraken Bond’s FastCoat sheet names car bodies, trailers and boats among its applications and asks for surfaces free of dust, grease and rust, and DAP’s Wall & Cavity sheet says it bonds to "most: woods, masonry, metals and drywall." On condensation the sheets make claims without tests: FastCoat says it "Helps reduce condensation issues," SprayCoat and ThermCoat list "Elimination of the dew point," and SuperCoat says it "Prevents the formation of dew points," but none names a test, a thickness or a climate behind the claim. Whether a steel building or a van sweats behind the foam depends on the whole assembly and the climate, which none of these documents addresses.

  4. Can I stop halfway through a spray foam kit and finish the next day? Buyer question

Between cans, yes; in the middle of a can the sheets warn against it, and none of them gives an overnight time limit. The FastCoat, SprayCoat and SuperCoat sheets all say to use the entire can without stopping for more than 5 minutes, FastCoat because "foam may cure inside the applicator," and TYTAN’s Thermospray sheet says that after a break of more than 5 minutes the nozzle should be cleaned with foam cleaner and the can shaken again. For a part-used can left on the gun, Stanley’s SuperCoat sheet says to store it "with the can valve pointing downwards" and warns that storing it upright "may cause propellant to leak from the foam applicator and become inoperative," while Akfix’s ThermCoat sheet says the nozzles and gun "should be cleaned immediately after job finishes." DAP’s Wall & Cavity sheet allows a can to be reused after a thorough shake but, like the other six one-component documents we read, gives no number of days a part-used can stays usable.

  5. How long do unopened spray foam kit cans last, and how should I store them? Buyer question

The kit sheets print 12 or 18 months: Kraken Bond’s FastCoat, Sprayman’s SprayCoat and Akfix’s ThermCoat say 18 months, while Stanley’s SuperCoat says 12, TYTAN’s Thermospray says 12 months "from the manufacturing date," and DAP’s Wall & Cavity sheet says 12. Storage ranges differ by brand: FastCoat says 41 to 77 F in a dry place, SuperCoat 41 to 86 F at no more than 60% relative humidity, TYTAN 41 to 86 F, the Y’allCanDIY manual 41 to 77 F, and DAP ideally 70 to 85 F but "not below 60°F (16°C) or above 90°F (32°C)." Five of the seven documents say to keep the can standing up: ThermCoat and SuperCoat say vertical, DAP says "Store upright," TYTAN says "valve facing up," and Y’allCanDIY says "Do not store cans on their side." Only TYTAN allows cold storage, at 23 F for "no longer than for 7 days," and Akfix adds that storage above 77 F or below 41 F "shortens shelf life."

  6. Can I spray a one-component foam kit on the underside of my attic roof deck? Buyer question

Six of the seven one-component kit documents we read list attics among their uses, and none of the seven names an ignition barrier, a thermal barrier or an ICC-ES report for that use. The FastCoat, SprayCoat, ThermCoat and SuperCoat sheets list roofs and attics and give a ceiling spraying distance of 6 to 8 in with the ceiling nozzle, TYTAN’s Thermospray sheet names "attics (walls and slants)," and DAP’s Wall & Cavity sheet lists attics. For comparison, ICC-ES report ESR-3228 for DuPont’s two-component Froth-Pak requires an ignition barrier in attics entered only to service utilities unless its listed conditions and coating are met, and no can kit in our set has a report like it. Whether exposed foam on your roof deck passes is for your local code official to decide, and Kraken Bond’s FastCoat sheet adds "Do not use in enclosed areas without fresh air."

From the job to the finished wall

Plan the job in five questions

  1. Where are you insulating?

A garage ceiling, a rim joist and a van wall each ask for a different foam, thickness and cover. Start with the job.

  2. What will it cost?

Board feet are the area times the thickness. Price the kits that cover them against hiring the job out.

  3. What do you need?

A kit, the gun and cleaner it works with, something to cover what stays clean, and the gear you wear.

  4. How do you do it?

Check the temperature, prepare the surface, spray in passes and cover the foam where people live.

  5. How long does it take?

The sheets give a tack-free time in minutes and a full cure in hours; only some say when people can go back in.
