Gaps and cracks foam is the base product every other category on this site is built from. A can of expanding polyurethane, a straw or a gun, and a claim on top: none here, pest on the next page, orange for fire block, low expansion for window frames, black for ponds. This page compares the plain version on the only things a buyer can check, which are the gap size the maker states, the yield it prints, and whether a dated document exists at all.

A gap filler that says "spray foam insulation" on the label is still a gap filler.

Seventeen of the forty-eight cans we track carry "insulation" in a listing title, and nine of those are straw or trigger cans. Not one of the nine publishes a coverage area: they are sold by the can and by gap size, not by the square foot. They seal a joint; they do not insulate a wall. If you are pricing an open wall or an attic, you want the kit ranking, and our coverage guide explains why the two are not interchangeable.

How this page is ordered

Four things we could confirm, and nothing we could not

  • Brand data sheetA technical data sheet published by the maker for this product. A safety data sheet or a web page is recorded but does not earn the mark, and where a sheet carries no date or revision the record says so.
  • Claim checkableFor a gap filler, "claim traceable" means the maker prints a gap size, an expansion statement or a yield figure in a dated document. A number on a web page or in a listing title does not count.
  • Brand-channel sellerThe Amazon seller of record is the brand or a storefront that carries only that brand in our intake. A multi-brand reseller or an unbranded trading company does not earn it.
  • 100 or more ratingsOn the listing we link. A feedback base, not a verdict; how we read reviews is a separate guide.

Products are ordered by how many of four things we could confirm, then by the size of the buyer-feedback base: a dated technical data sheet from the brand, a category claim you can check against a figure in a dated document, a marketplace seller that is the brand or its single-brand distributor, and at least 100 ratings on the listing we link. This is not a performance score. Nothing on this page was applied or tested by us.

At a glance

19 gaps & cracks products, in evidence order

The number in the first column is a position, not a score: products with more of the four things confirmed come first, and ties are broken by how many people have rated the product. Under each heading is how many products on this page cleared that test. A circle means we looked and it was not there. Prices are the October 29, 2026 snapshot for the cheapest bare-can listing we hold; ratings were read October 29, 2026. Prices are snapshots, each dated where it appears, not live figures, so check the seller before you pay. Tap a name for the full record.

01 Loctite Tite Foam Gaps & Cracks can

Loctite Tite Foam Gaps & Cracks

Flexible white 1 in gap filler with the clearest consumer sheet in the set and 21,643 ratings; the sheet says it is not a fire stopping material.

The claim, in the seller's words

"Expands to fill, seal, and insulate gaps & cracks inside or out up to one inch." The sheet also says the product "is not a fire stopping material and SHOULD NOT be used in areas that require fireproof or fire stopping materials."

Cured formFlexible solid, dimensional stability under 5 percent (TM 1004-2012)TDS
Working rangeAmbient 23 to 95 F, can at 41 F or above; tack-free 6 to 8 min at 73 F and 50 percent RHTDS
FireNot a fire stopping material, in the sheet’s own wordsTDS

Desk note

The most-reviewed can in the whole intake by a wide margin, 21,643 ratings on September 7 and a "10K+ bought in past month" badge on September 8. The data sheet is the clearest consumer sheet we hold: it gives a joint width, a bead yield and, unusually, a plain sentence that the foam is not a fire stopping material. The flexibility claim is what separates it from the rigid polyurethane fillers on this page; the sheet describes the cured foam as a flexible solid.

  • Loctite lists one size on Amazon under its own name. The Big Gaps sibling, rated to 3 in on its own sheet, was not in the intake.
  • No R-value or thermal figure is published, which is appropriate for a gap filler and worth noticing when other cans print one.

02 Kraken Bond Gaps & Cracks can

Kraken Bond Gaps & Cracks

High-expansion straw can with the only gap filler sheet that prints a volumetric yield and its method; the same sheet also lists window and door frames, while the brand sells a separate low-expansion frame foam.

Straw, 12 oz and 24 oz Light yellow
  • Brand data sheeta technical data sheet is published by the brand

  • Brand-channel sellerSold by Lotus Global Trade LLC, the storefront that carries the Kraken Bond and Sprayman lines and no other brand in our intake.
  • 100+ ratings545 ratings on the anchor listing

The claim, in the seller's words

"High expansion rate." "Fixing and insulating window and door frames." Both statements appear on the same data sheet; Kraken also sells a separate low-expansion Window & Door Pro foam.

Kraken Bond technical data sheet FS 101, rev. 2, dated 4.9.2026

What the documents state

ExpansionHigh expansionTDS rev. 2
Yield8 to 12 gal volumetric yield (ASTM C1536); density 1.37 lb/ft3 (ASTM D1622)TDS rev. 2
ThermalAbout R-4.1 per inch, stated alongside 0.036 W/m.K to DIN 52612. The FTC rule at 16 CFR 460.5 names four US methods, three of which are conductivity measurements, so the objection is not the method type: DIN 52612 is a German standard that is not one of the four, and no aging basis is given. Taken on its own the 0.036 figure works out at R-4.01 per inch, so the two numbers on the sheet are close but not derived from each otherTDS rev. 2
Fire classB3 to DIN 4102, the lowest German class; no US surface-burning figureTDS rev. 2
Working rangeApplication 28 to 86 F; tack-free 7 plus or minus 3 min (ASTM C1620)TDS rev. 2

Desk note

The most complete gap filler sheet in the intake alongside Loctite, and the only one to print a volumetric yield with the method behind it. The same sheet describes the foam as high expansion and lists fixing and insulating window and door frames as an application, while Kraken separately sells a low-expansion Window & Door Pro foam. That is not a conflict between the listing and the sheet; it is an unresolved product-selection question inside the maker’s own range. The single 24 oz can also carried the same price as the 12-pack, $149.99 on September 7, so check the selected pack before ordering.

03 Kraken Bond PestSafe Foam Sealant can

Kraken Bond PestSafe Foam Sealant

Documented as a filler, with a bead yield on a dated sheet; the pest side names no active ingredient, and the can carries three names.

Straw, 12 oz Light yellow Also in pest block
  • Brand data sheeta technical data sheet is published by the brand

  • 100+ ratings296 ratings on the anchor listing

The claim, in the seller's words

The brand store says "Formulated with an EPA-registered pesticide." The sheet says the opposite in a bullet, "Long-Lasting Pesticide Free," and its sentence on what the foam contains is missing the word that would name it: "containing an that protects the foam from attack by mice, birds, bats, and tree squirrels." Amazon sells it as Pestblokc, "with Mothball Odor."

Desk note

The best-documented pest can as a filler: a dated sheet with a bead yield and a stated expansion. As a pest product its two documents disagree: the store claims an EPA-registered pesticide and the sheet says "Long-Lasting Pesticide Free", and neither publishes a registration number. The three names, PestSafe on the store and Pestblokc or Pestblock on Amazon, are a matching hazard rather than a mark against the product; the "Mothball Odor" in the Amazon title is the one place the marketplace hints at what is inside.

  • The store says the foam has an EPA-registered pesticide; the sheet dated 5.14.2026 says "Long-Lasting Pesticide Free".
  • EPA registration number not published.
  • Same formula sold under three names across two channels.

The pesticide statement sits in the technical sheet rather than only on a store page. Its SDS also lists 1,4-dichlorobenzene at 0.5 to 5 percent, but neither document says that substance is the active ingredient behind the pest claim. Desk note

The biggest seller in the pest set: 674 ratings and "1K+ bought" on the 12-pack in the September 7 intake, and a "500+ bought in past month" badge on the single can on September 8. The claim that sells it, a pesticide inside the foam, is still the one a buyer cannot check. The data sheet does not help with that either: it names no active ingredient and no registration number. What it does add is the working end of the can and one sentence that matters more than any figure on it, because the sheet makes the exempt claim and the non-exempt claim one after the other.

  • EPA registration number and active ingredient published nowhere, including on the sheet; we have not seen the can label.
  • The sheet carries no date or revision.
  • Three ASINs for the 12-pack at one price split the feedback base.

ServiceCured foam -40 to 176 FTDS, undated

Desk note

The sheet gives the working end of the can and not the selling end: application from 23 F, tack-free in about seven minutes, cut at forty, full cure in a day. What it does not give is the part this category is marked on, a gap size or an expansion figure or a yield, and it prints no date or revision, so nothing on it can be pinned to a version. The "UL certified" line on the store does not appear on the sheet at all. Sprayman publishes a technical data sheet for every sealant it sells, behind a button marked TDS on each product page. Separately, the same single-can listing exists under five ASINs at the same price, which spreads the feedback base and makes the volume look smaller than it is.

  • The sheet carries no date or revision, so there is no way to tell which formulation it describes.
  • The sheet says 13.5 oz while the brand store and marketplace listings say 12 oz; no version marker resolves which package the sheet covers.
  • "UL certified for safety and performance" appears on the store and nowhere on the sheet; no category or file number is given.
  • Five duplicate ASINs for the single 12 oz can.

Desk note

Stanley publishes a full document set for this can, TDS and SDS, from its own documents page. What the sheet lacks is the one number a gap filler buyer wants, a gap width or a yield; "high yield" is the whole statement. The Amazon titles call it "spray foam insulation," which is the naming habit the coverage guide warns about: this is sold by the can, not by the square foot.

  • The sheet describes a 24 oz can; the 12 oz listings are not separately documented.
  • Amazon titles describe the can as "Polyurethane Spray Foam Insulation." It is a gap filler.

ListingICC-ES ESL-1058 names this foam for surface burning at a 1/2 in bead, flame spread 25 or less and smoke developed 450 or less; it is not a fireblocking testESL-1058, April 2026

Desk note

One of six fire block sheets in the intake that print both surface-burning indices under a named standard, with Sprayman’s undated Fire Stop sheet, Stanley’s F952 sheet and three dated TYTAN sheets. This one is dated and names both cans it sells, and it is the only sheet here that states a bead yield for each of two can sizes on one page, 2,240 ft from the 20.3 fl oz can and 1,493 from the 13.5. That is the shape of a checkable claim. What it still lacks is the tested thickness and a fireblocking test: the ICC-ES listing its product page cites, ESL-1058, covers surface burning only. The brand also sells a gun-grade "Xtreme Pro" fire block (FR 202) that claims Class A to ASTM E84 with a 1/4 to 3 in gap range; we have not matched it to an Amazon listing.

  • No tested thickness, laboratory or report number on the sheet.
  • The 24 oz "cleaner included" listings had no ratings on September 7.

Desk note

The category reference product for most US buyers, sold on Amazon by DuPont itself. The 20 oz "157911" listing carried 1,911 ratings and a "500+ bought in past month" badge on September 8, while the brand page lists only the 12 oz can, so the larger can is a marketplace item you will not find described on greatstuff.dupont.com. Everything the brand says about performance sits on a web page rather than a data sheet; that is the gap in an otherwise easy record.

  • The 20 oz can (item 157911) is not described on the brand site; its gap limit is assumed to match the 12 oz can and has not been confirmed.

The second-biggest gap filler seller in the intake after Loctite: 508 ratings on the 2 x 12 oz listing and a "400+ bought in past month" badge on September 8. Its evidence is the weakest of the major brands here, not because Akfix publishes bad numbers but because the data sheet button leads nowhere. Akfix has published detailed sheets for its other lines, so this looks like a broken link rather than a policy.

  • Data sheet link broken on the brand store on September 8 and again on September 14, 2026; on the re-check list.

Gun cans, a foam gun is needed

These thread onto a foam gun, which is a separate purchase from about $15 to $56. In return you get a bead you can meter, and on most of these the can stays usable on the gun for weeks. This is the list for repeat work.

01 TYTAN Professional Fill All can

TYTAN Professional Fill All

Expansion90 to 130 percent post-expansion; 24-hour full cureTDS 08.06.2026

Desk note

The most recently dated sheet of the four TYTAN cans here, updated June 2026, and one of the few documents in this whole intake that states how its own bead-yield figures were produced: theoretical calculations from a free-foaming test under internal method RB/024. Read the table carefully, because it prints 502 ft for a "1/2 in width bead" and 1,463 ft for a "1/2 in bead" without explaining the difference. It also carries the full UL 723 result to ASTM E84 at flame spread 15 and smoke developed 10 and says it is UL classified, alongside DIN 4102 class B3 and EN 13501-1 class F in the same table.

  • The sheet prints 502 ft and 1,463 ft for two differently worded 1/2 in bead rows and does not reconcile them.
  • UL classified is stated without a file or control number.
  • No tested thickness or laboratory for the UL 723 result.

Straw siblingThe 12 oz Pest Blocker straw can is the same line without the gun threadBrand store

Desk note

The gun version of the Pest Blocker, and the only pest can in this set sold as a bare can and as a set with the gun and cleaner in the same listing. On September 9 the store priced it at $19.99 for one can and $44.95 for the set, which is the clearest statement on this page of what the tool costs on top of the foam. Its pest claim goes further than the straw version: that one says the foam contains a pesticide, this one says it keeps six named animals out. Neither names the ingredient, and the further claim is the one that would need a registration number behind it.

  • EPA registration number and active ingredient published nowhere, including on the sheet; we have not seen the can label.
  • No Amazon listing matched: the 24 oz Sprayman listings we found carry a pond and landscape title.
  • The sheet carries no date or revision.
  • The store prints the can temperature range as the application range, which is 18 degrees narrower at the cold end than the sheet allows.

Desk note

The one product that belongs to both the gap filler and the fire block sets by its own description: a 3 in gun foam that is "fireblock formulated." It is also the best-known orange can in the trade. On Amazon it reaches buyers through a reseller rather than DuPont, in listings whose titles do not state the pack count, so the same "24 oz" title can be a single can at one price and a case at another. Read the listing body, not the title, before you compare prices.

  • The 30 oz can sold on Amazon does not appear on the brand page, which lists 24 oz only.
  • For fire block use the buyer needs the tested configuration and the index values. DuPont names the methods only; the complete version of such a claim, with file numbers, exists in the trade (Loctite publishes one for its Pro Gaps & Cracks Foam), so this is a publishing choice rather than a limit of the category.

Desk note

The one pest can in the intake that says plainly what it is: a gap filler with no pesticide, whose pest function is the physical seal. That makes its claim the easiest to understand and the only one on this page that does not depend on a number nobody publishes. "Controls rats" is a stronger sentence than "seals openings," and rodents gnaw cured foam, so read it as a seal and add hardware cloth where a rodent is the problem. On Amazon it arrives through a reseller, often as a kit with gun, cleaner and copper mesh.

  • No technical data sheet from DuPont.
  • "Controls ... rats" is an effectiveness statement; the mechanism is a seal, and whether that wording carries a regulatory consequence is not decided here.

  1. Can I use expanding foam under a bathtub or shower base to support it? Buyer question

None of the six gap filler data sheets we read (Loctite, Kraken Bond, Stanley F905 and F905P, Sprayman and TYTAN Fill All) lists a tub or shower base among its uses, and none calls its foam load-bearing or structural. Stanley’s F905 and F905P and Sprayman’s sheet claim "mounting capacity and stability", and those three plus Kraken Bond Gaps & Cracks print a compression strength of 4.35 psi (30 kPa), with TYTAN Fill All at 5 PSI or more, but no sheet says what load the foam is meant to carry. Kraken Bond’s sheet for its ThermaFoam wide-spray can, a different product, states "Not intended for load-bearing or structural bonding applications". For how the tub or shower base itself should be supported, its maker’s installation instructions are the place to look, and none of our records holds them.

  2. Can I reuse a half-used can of gap filler, and how long does an unopened can last? Buyer question

The straw and trigger can sheets that address it expect one session: Loctite’s Tite Foam sheet says "One-time use should be expected", and the Stanley F905 and Sprayman sheets ask you to use the whole can without stopping more than 5 minutes between sprays, because the foam dries in the applicator. Among the gap fillers, reuse is stated only for gun cans: DuPont’s page for Great Stuff PRO Gaps & Cracks says it is reusable for 30 days while left on the gun, and TYTAN’s Fill All sheet says to clean the applicator and valve with foam cleaner when a can is not used up. Unopened, Kraken Bond, Stanley F905 and F905P and Sprayman give a shelf life of 15 months, Loctite 18 months from the date of manufacture (15 months for its California can) and TYTAN Fill All 18 months from the manufacturing date, and DuPont’s safety data sheet for Great Stuff Gaps & Cracks gives a storage period of 18 months at 77 F. Loctite prints a BEST BY date on the bottom of the can.

  3. Can I use gap filler foam around hot water or radiator pipes? Buyer question

Water pipes are a listed use, but no sheet gives a pipe temperature: Kraken Bond Gaps & Cracks, Stanley F905 and F905P and Sprayman all name insulating water pipes among their applications. What each sheet prints is a temperature range for the cured foam: -103 to 239 F for Kraken Bond and Stanley F905, -40 to 176 F for Stanley F905P, Sprayman and Loctite, and -200 to +240 F for TYTAN Fill All. Loctite is the one of the six gap filler sheets with a hot-surface warning: the foam "Should not be used in contact with chimneys, heater vents, steam pipes" or other areas with surface temperatures greater than 187 F, and the label precautions on the same sheet say dried foam "may be combustible" if exposed to flame or temperatures above 240 F. The running temperature of your pipe is not in any of these documents, so it is the figure to check against the range on the can; for copper, Loctite and TYTAN both list metal among the materials their foam bonds to.

  4. How much gap will one can of gap filler fill? Buyer question

It depends on the bead, and only three of the six gap filler data sheets we read print a yield at all. Loctite says a 12 fl oz can extrudes a 3/8 in bead approximately 134.0 ft long, a figure it calls theoretical and for comparison; Kraken Bond prints a volumetric yield of 8 to 12 gal to ASTM C1536 for its 24 oz can; and TYTAN’s sheet for the 24 oz Fill All gives 502 ft of a 1/2 in wide bead in one row and 1463 ft of a 1/2 in bead in another, the second described as a theoretical calculation from free foaming under its internal method RB/024. Stanley’s F905 and F905P sheets call the foam high yield without a number, and Sprayman’s sheet prints none.

  5. How wide a gap can a gaps and cracks foam fill before I need a big gap foam? Buyer question

Up to 1 inch on the two consumer cans that state a size, and up to 3 inches on two gun cans. Loctite’s Tite Foam Gaps & Cracks sheet says the foam fills gaps and cracks up to 1 in and gives a maximum joint width of 1.6 inches, and DuPont’s page for the Great Stuff Gaps & Cracks straw can says up to 1 inch (25mm). Great Stuff PRO Gaps & Cracks says up to 3 inch (76mm), and TYTAN Fill All says 1/4 in to 3 in, though the same TYTAN sheet calls gaps over 1.18 in (3 cm) not recommended, and gaps over 1.97 in (5 cm) unacceptable, when sealing open woodwork. Kraken Bond, Stanley F905 and F905P and Sprayman print no gap width, and Great Stuff Big Gap Filler is not a can the site tracks, so we hold no document for it.

  6. What will expanding foam not stick to? Buyer question

Polyethylene, Teflon (PTFE) and silicone or siliconized surfaces, on all five of the gap filler data sheets we read that list exceptions: Loctite, Stanley F905 and F905P, Sprayman and TYTAN Fill All. Loctite adds "some plastic and rubber surfaces", the Stanley and Sprayman sheets add surfaces contaminated with oils, greases or mold release agents, and TYTAN adds polypropylene and polyamide. On the other side, TYTAN names glass, metal, masonry and plastic among the surfaces its foam bonds to and lists styrofoam among typical construction materials, and Loctite names wood, metal, stone, brick and PVC. The sixth sheet, Kraken Bond Gaps & Cracks, says only that the foam "Adheres to most building materials" and lists no exceptions.

  7. Which gap filler has the best documentation? From the records

Loctite Tite Foam Gaps & Cracks and Kraken Bond Gaps & Cracks are the two with a dated data sheet that prints a measurable figure: Loctite gives a joint width and a bead yield, Kraken gives a volumetric yield with its test method. Stanley publishes dated sheets for the F905 and F905P but no gap or yield number.

  8. Is a "spray foam insulation" straw can the same as an insulation kit? From the records

No. The cans on this page are sold by gap size and none publishes a coverage area. A kit is sold by board feet for open surfaces. The words on the label do not change what the can does.

  9. Why is Great Stuff PRO listed on both this page and the fire block page? From the records

Because DuPont describes it both ways: a gap filler for openings up to 3 inches that is also "fireblock formulated." One product record, two category tags.

  10. Do the prices here update? From the records

They are a dated snapshot from September 7, 2026, with a second read of the listings on September 8. Pack sizes on nine ASINs changed between those two days, so check the listing title before you buy.
