Vega Bond SF001 Purplecoat 12-Pack Review

Vega Bond Purplecoat states R-5.66 per inch and a Class A result to ASTM E84 without indices, thickness or report, and publishes no data sheet. On September 8, 2026 the Amazon 12-pack of foam alone cost $303.12 while the Walmart 12-pack with a gun and cleaner cost $199.99, and every variant on the brand store was out of stock. It stays in the research set until a document appears.

Research summary, not a hands-on test. Product claims on this page are attributed to the sources and dates shown. Before use, read the exact product label, the current safety data sheet and the application instructions, and confirm ventilation, protective equipment, occupant isolation and re-entry or reoccupancy conditions. A surface-burning classification alone does not establish approval to leave foam exposed or to use it in a particular assembly. Included protective items may not meet every requirement for your job; select ventilation and protective equipment from the exact product instructions and the exposure conditions, not from what the box contains.

What to check first

Price this one across channels before you buy it anywhere. On September 8 the Amazon 12-pack of foam alone was $303.12; the Walmart 12-pack with a gun and a cleaner was $199.99; the brand store’s 12-pack with gun and cleaner was $184.99 and, like every other size on the store, out of stock. A hundred dollars separates foam-only on Amazon from foam-plus-gun on Walmart.

The fire statement is a sentence, not a result. "Class A building product in compliant with ASTM E84 Smoke Development and Fire Spread" names the test and the class and gives no index, no thickness and no report. Our July note that the 24-pack was Amazon-only is now reversed: the store lists a 24-pack set, out of stock, and Amazon shows only the 12.

Why this confidence level · editorial opinion, not a test result

Core documents are missing or a headline claim cannot be checked at all. The feedback base is real and the documents are not there. A fire sentence without numbers and a hundred-dollar spread between the Amazon and Walmart prices for the same twelve cans. Buy it on the channel that is cheaper and ask the brand for the sheet. Its own store does publish reviews, 213 on the page for this product at 4.77, and 141 of them carry the platform’s verified-purchase label.

How the manufacturer describes it

Compiled from vbinsulation.com and the Amazon and Walmart listings as they read on September 8, 2026. It is the seller’s description, not ours.

  • A single-component closed-cell spray foam in 29 oz cans, each covering up to 20 board feet at 1 in, with a stated R-value of 5.66 per inch.
  • "A Class A building product in compliant with ASTM E84 Smoke Development and Fire Spread," per the store.
  • Adheres, by the listing, to wood, brick, stone, concrete, metal, drywall and OSB; sold for walls, attics, ceilings, basements, foundations, trailers, RVs, boats and sheds.
  • Packages that include a gun also include a hose and a 45-degree elbow for overhead and tight spaces.
  • The store sells the same gun, hose, cleaner, coverall and respirator cartridges used with its two-component kits.

The FastCoat, SprayCoat, ThermCoat and SuperCoat documents state the same yield basis of 20 board feet at 1 inch, the same nozzle A for walls and nozzle B for ceilings, the same 1-inch layer advice with water misting between coats, and the same 24-hour cure with a 40-minute cutting time. The SprayCoat and ThermCoat data sheets also carry the same packaging line, 28.7 oz at a gross 2.05 lb with 12 to a box. We record that pattern and draw no conclusion from it: none of the four states a relationship with the others, and we have not established who manufactures any of them.

What the differences mean

Foam alone on Amazon costs more than foam with a gun on Walmart

$303.12 for 12 cans on Amazon against $199.99 for 12 cans with a gun and cleaner on Walmart and $184.99 for the same on the brand store.

Why it matters. The Amazon price is the one most buyers see, and on September 8 it was the worst of the three by more than a hundred dollars.

A fire class with no numbers

The store’s "Class A ... compliant with ASTM E84 Smoke Development and Fire Spread" gives no flame spread index, smoke index, thickness or report.

Why it matters. Class A is a pair of numbers at a thickness. Without them the claim cannot be checked, which is the same finding we record for BEEST and for most of the sealant category.

Sources: vbinsulation.com Purplecoat 12-pack

The store is empty

All 18 variants of the Purplecoat kit were unavailable on the brand store on September 8, 2026.

Why it matters. A brand store with nothing to sell leaves the marketplaces as the only channels, and their prices differ by a hundred dollars.

In the box

  • 12 foam cans
  • Gun and cleaner in the Walmart pack and the store’s "gun + cleaner" variants
  • Hose and 45-degree elbow with gun packages, per the listing
  • Coverall and glasses in the store’s "Set" variants

Vega Bond is the only single-can seller that also sells respirator cartridges on the same store, because it sells two-component kits too. That says something about how it reads its own PPE list.

Product overview

Vega Bond markets Purplecoat as a single-component closed-cell foam for seamless, continuous insulation, with a stated ASTM E84 Class A rating and broad surface adhesion. Each 29 oz can is claimed to cover 20 board feet at 1 inch.

Manufacturer-stated features

  • R-5.66 per inch - manufacturer claim
  • ASTM E84 Class A stated (smoke development and fire spread)
  • Adheres to wood, brick, stone, concrete, metal, drywall, glass, MDF and OSB
  • 20 board feet per 29 oz can at 1 inch - theoretical

Overview synthesized from the brand’s official page and the Amazon listing. Specifications are manufacturer claims, not independently verified.

Reviews on the brand’s own shop, and how many carry the verified-purchase label

Two thirds of these carry the verified-purchase label

141 of 213 reviews on vbinsulation.com are matched to an order in that shop. The other 72 are not.

66%

Two thirds of them carry the label: 141 of the 213 reviews, which leaves 72 without it, the largest count of unmatched reviews on any store here that clears half.

A shop’s own star rating is the number its seller controls most completely. This is how much of it the review platform could match to a real order placed in that shop. Verified means the platform matched the review to an order in that shop. Unverified does not mean false: it can be a buyer who ordered on a marketplace, a review imported from another platform, or one collected outside the shop’s checkout. Which of those applies is not published, so a reader cannot tell. Counted one page at a time on September 12, 2026.

A large, mostly positive pool; technique-sensitive, with can-to-can consistency the main complaint.

Stands out: Buyers share detailed prep tips and note the brand made good on a bad batch.

Buyers praise

  • Easy and not too messy on walls; a good dew-point barrier
  • Responsive customer service after a bad batch
  • Large, detailed buyer-feedback base

Buyers complain

  • A bulk buyer reports about 20% waste and inconsistency between cans
  • A gun hose blew out mid-job for one buyer
  • Technique-sensitive: best results need a good first pass

Buyer tip: Buyer reviews describe different conditioning practices, but they are not verified instructions. Follow the exact current label and technical data sheet for storage, product, surface and ambient temperature limits.

Vega Bond has a right of reply

Everything on this page is a dated reading of documents that can change. If you make or sell this product, or you have read something here that is wrong, send the document. Every submission is read against the record; where it changes the record, the change is dated on the page, and where it does not, the reply says why.
