Akfix vs Stanley: ThermCoat and SuperCoat Compared
Both 24-can kits claim 480 board feet at 1 inch and R-5.66 per inch. ThermCoat publishes the fuller performance sheet; SuperCoat publishes the cleaner document trail. On the latest readings ThermCoat was the cheaper of the two at $329.99 against $389.95.
The short answer
Which one, and when neither
-
ThermCoat, if the published performance rows and the store reviews decide it
Akfix puts both ASTM E84/UL 723 indices at 2 inches and a density of 0.94 plus or minus 0.06 lb/ft3 under ASTM D1622 on its sheet. Stanley publishes neither row. That stronger visible record is why ThermCoat sits #2 in our kit order and SuperCoat sits #3. Its own store is small but clean: 32 of the 34 reviews akfixstore.com serves are tied to an order in that shop, 94%, at a 4.65 average.
-
SuperCoat, if document control decides it
Stanley publishes a data sheet dated March 25, 2025, revision 1, and a safety data sheet on the same documents page, and it sells through retailers rather than a store of its own, so there is no brand-store review base to read either way. On price, ThermCoat was the cheaper of the two at $329.99 against $389.95, $0.51 an ounce for ThermCoat against $0.60 for SuperCoat.
-
Neither, if a claimed board foot is your whole material takeoff
The 480-board-foot figures are maker claims at 1 inch, not measurements from your wall. Substrate temperature, spray distance, overlap, wind and trimming change installed yield. Buy with a waste margin and follow the exact label and safety sheet; neither comparison score is a hands-on foam test.

A green cell means one record is stronger on that exact row. It does not turn a document score, a marketplace average or a maker yield into a hands-on performance test.

| Density Product-specific figure published | This row Specific gravity 0.94 plus or minus 0.06 lb/ft3 under ASTM D1622, printed on this sheet. The sheet’s label is specific gravity, which has no unit; lb/ft3 is a density unit and ASTM D1622 is the density test for rigid cellular plastics, so the line is read as a density. It sits inside the 0.5 to 2.0 lb/ft3 the rim-joist exception needs, as the maker’s figure for cured foam rather than an installed density anyone has verified. It is printed on this sheet alone: the FastCoat, SprayCoat and SuperCoat sheets carry no density line and do not score it. DAP Wall & Cavity prints one of its own, to the same method, and is a can rather than a kit so it is not scored here.Research criterion B5 | No density or specific gravity on this sheet. The 0.94 plus or minus 0.06 lb/ft3 under ASTM D1622 in this set is printed on the Akfix ThermCoat sheet only and is not transferred here: the two sheets share the conductivity, R-value, compression and yield lines, and this one prints a tack-free time of 5 plus or minus 2 minutes under ASTM C1620 where the Akfix sheet prints a tack-free time of 4, and nothing from either maker says the two cans hold one formulation. What would change this
The missing piece, named
- A dated, revision-controlled ThermCoat sheet that resolves the DIN 4102-1 B3 line beside its US Class A statement would remove its largest paperwork question.
- A public SuperCoat fire result and a product-specific density would close the two performance rows ThermCoat currently publishes and Stanley does not.
Asked about this pair
Questions people type, answered from the records
Do ThermCoat and SuperCoat claim the same coverage?
Yes. Both makers state up to 20 board feet per can at 1 inch, or 480 board feet for the 24-can kit. That is a published claim under stated application conditions, not a promise of installed yield on every job.
Which kit was cheaper in the same 24-can size?
On the latest readings, ThermCoat at $329.99 at the Akfix store against SuperCoat at $389.95 at Walmart, both read on October 29, 2026. ThermCoat was $59.96 less for the same 24-can kit, which is $0.51 an ounce for ThermCoat against $0.60 for SuperCoat. On the September 7, 2026 prices the rubric scores, SuperCoat was the cheaper. That is why every price on this site carries its date. Prices here are dated snapshots, so confirm the seller before you pay.
Which kit has the better fire paperwork?
ThermCoat has the better public fire row because its own sheet prints ASTM E84 and UL 723 at 2 inches with both indices. The same sheet also prints DIN 4102-1 class B3, a separate German system, and Akfix has not resolved why both statements appear. SuperCoat has a matching fire report that our desk has seen, but Stanley does not publish the result on its data sheet.
Are the Amazon stars part of the Best Spray Foam score?
Amazon feedback is one input, clearly separated from the research score. On September 12, 2026, ThermCoat showed 4.2 from 585 ratings and SuperCoat 4.4 from 298. The site score also weighs documents, claim consistency, kit contents, price and traceability; it is not a star rating for installed performance.
What else do Akfix and Stanley sell in spray foam?
Both sell a pest block foam, a gap filler in straw and gun cans, a fire block foam and a black foam, each with a record on this site. Stanley also lists three window and door foams with records here, a two-canister SuperCoat kit, F994C, read on our two-component page, and an F993P pest block gun can, an F903P black foam gun can, an F995 wide foam and an F996 post fix foam that this site does not track yet. Akfix’s US store listed no window and door foam, no wide spray can and no fence post foam when we read both on October 18, 2026. Neither brand’s adhesive foams, silicones and glues are tracked here.
How this page is built
Nothing here was sprayed by us
This comparison reads what each maker publishes and what the listings show; it is not a hands-on test. Every figure in the tables comes from the product records behind the full record pages, with the document it came from and the date we read it, and it changes on this page the day a record is re-read. A side is marked ahead only when both were measured the same way, or when only one maker put the figure in writing. The rules behind the order on the category pages are in the methodology.

Everything on this page is a dated reading of documents that can change. If you make or sell this product, or you have read something here that is wrong, send the document. Every submission is read against the record; where it changes the record, the change is dated on the page, and where it does not, the reply says why. A submission cannot buy a position or remove a finding the documents still support, and what moves a record is written down.
